The search for new drugs has led us to look back at nature, and in Mexico, the Ombú (Phytolacca dioica) has emerged as a tree with great potential. Although the Ombú is native to South America, it has adapted to our territory, suggesting that the Mexican climate could enhance its healing compounds. This giant offers more than just shade; it is a living laboratory rich in saponins and flavonoids with antioxidants, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, capable of releasing compounds to combat harmful fungi. However, science warns that dosage is key as excess can be toxic. Validating this ancestral knowledge with rigor is a crucial step toward transforming an ornamental plant into a pillar of modern medicine, ensuring safe therapies that stem from our roots. Its presence in Mexico represents a scientific opportunity to innovate in healthcare, reminding us that ¡the laboratory is in the garden!
