Antioxidants and inhibition of free radicals: lipoperoxidation and carbonylation

Abstract
The interaction that exists between free radicals and antioxidants is important for health, aging and different diseases related to age. Free radicals induce oxidative stress, which can be inhibited by the action of the body's endogenous antioxidants in conjunction with the exogenous antioxidants that are obtained through the ingestion of some foods. The free radicals that are commonly produced during aerobic metabolism are used in different defense mechanisms against infectious agents, however these molecules are highly reactive, and can damage various biomolecules of our cells. In this work, a general view of the main aspects of the subject is presented, concepts, classifications and characteristics of free radicals and different antioxidant defense systems are mentioned, the mechanisms by which damage these chemical species are produced on the body are briefly explained
