Steviol glucosides production in Stevia rebaudiana bertoni root culture
Main Article Content
Abstract
Stevia rebaudiana is a medicinal plant native to Brazil and Paraguay, it is well known for its high accumulation of steviol glucosides (SG), mainly stevioside (St) and rebaudioside A (Reb A), which are tastes about 300 times sweeter than sucrose. In this work was evaluated the growth and accumulation of SG in roots of S. rebaudiana. The maximum biomass and St production was 10.24 mg/L and 4 mgSt/g after 20 days of culture. Furthermore, the addiction of 5 ppm (T1) and 15 ppm (T2) of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs ZnO) increased, both St and Reb A production by 1.5, 4.7-fold and 4.7-6.4-fold respectively in comparison to
control cultures (2.7mgSt/g, and 6.1 mgRebA /g).
